Chapter: Purple Sky Pepto

I was hired as the audio engineer for an undisclosed audiobook. I was given 4 chapters to edit with each being roughly 30 minutes long. The project was fun and a great experience. I’d love to work with them again. Some behind-the-scenes things you’d never know about, the narration was recorded by the voice actor. The same person who hired me. The recordings were performed in an untreated audio room which is why she needed post-production clean-up. She has a lovely cat who wanted to be a part of the recordings, remove the sound of the pages turning, fix any mispronounced words, distortions and edit the overall flow of the production. So after removing anything that shouldn’t be there, I was able to focus on creating the sound and texture of the performance. This book was quite gruesome so I only kept the first 30 seconds to display for this project. In the end, the final product met the following:

  1. Create an audio file that meets the ACX standards and requirements

  2. Removed any background noise, distractions, etc.

  3. EQ’d, Compressed, and added dimension to the vocal performance while removing all errors and distortions

  4. Created my own Room tone that’s only slightly audible in order to pass ACX standards and add depth.

A few words from Ann. The voice actor who hired me!

Wayne did a fantastic job on the audio engineering for my ACX/Amazon audiobook. As a voice actor, I depend on quality results with my raw recording files. Wayne has great technical skills, fast turnaround, and was a real asset to my team. I highly recommend him and will hire him again!
